Sustainability / Zero% Landfill
No Landfills.
Hotel Emporium's Zero% Landfill recycling project, delivered in partnership with recyclers, has recycled 4 tonnes of used guest toiletries and bulk-can packaging in the last 12 months. Toiletries and bulk cans are collected, segregated, and delivered for co-processing and recycling instead of going to landfill, and Hotel Emporium receives an End User Certificate for the recycled portion and a Thermal Destruction Certificate for co-processed items.

Process
How used toiletries and bulk cans get recycled.
The six-step process printed in the Zero% Landfill material, from packing used items through to recycling and co-processing certificates.
01
Pack for Collection
All toiletries in tube or bottle form are delivered in inner cartons, packed in a single outer carton. Bulk cans are delivered without any packaging.
02
Normal Operation
The hotel uses toiletries and bulk cans (30ml bottles, 30ml tubes, 380ml floating dispensers, 4L/5L bulk cans) during normal operation.
03
Seal After Use
All used toiletry bottles and tubes are packed in garbage bags to prevent leaking and cross-contamination, then tightly sealed. Garbage packs are placed in the same outer carton, sealed, and returned. Bulk cans are stored after usage for return.
04
Deliver for Pickup
All cartons and bulk cans are delivered to a location in Colombo for pickup, or collected by Hotel Emporium during the next delivery.
05
Segregate and Store
All items are segregated as required for recycling and co-processing, then stored at the warehouse temporarily until time of recycling and co-processing.
06
Recycle and Co-Process
Items are delivered to the recycling collection centre for co-processing and recycling. Hotel Emporium then receives an End User Certificate for the recycled portion of the items and a Thermal Destruction Certificate for co-processed items.
